[bolger] Re: Windsprint: Daggerboard case
You are right, the plans call to leave the hull side of the daggerboard
case open. Mine certainly is.
It would not be a bad idea, though to add the other side to yours. The
large volume of the daggerboard case does contribute to a loss of
bouyancy on one side which is evident when you compare the apparent
righting moments on each tack. The boat is definitely stiffer on the
port tack than on starboard (when the case is submerged and full of
water.) It's a small difference, I know. But I swear I can tell the
difference!
Is adding the addtional piece worth the effort? I doubt it, really.
You'd be better off putting the additional effort into building a
lighter mast.

Looking at the plans for the Windsprint, particularly the daggerboard
case.
I am currently using the plans in New Instant Boats.
Is the daggerboard case open to the side of the boat, or is there
another
piece of wood that parrallels the board on the inside of the case?
I only see the piece for the face of the case on the cutting diagrams.
I assume the rest come from spare planks/framing lumber.
A quick ASCII diagram:
