Please note that if you see any reference to plans for the PACIFIC
MAGIC lannd yacht design that the designer (me ) does not approve of
the sale of these plans, nor accept any responsibility for any land
or ice yacht built from plans purchased from any supplier .
Does that sound ominous or what.
Imagine my suprise to find somebody selling my plans on the net and
even saying they were done by me . youd think they would ask !

The Icester is definitely "Bolgeresque" in design, and I confess that
as the temperatures plummet here in upstate New York, I begin
dreaming of a good homebuilt iceboat. The only one for which I found
free plans online is the IceFlyer:
http:www.iceflyer.com
though several others had plans in the $20 to $35 range. One more
boat to put on the must-build list!
OK -- this is getting a bit off topic, but to all manic Bolger
builders deprived of sailing (and epoxy-curing) weather, it's a
forgiveable diversion, I hope.
All best,
Garth

Thanks Brent,
I have often wondered if the plans for Icester were still available.
(The little duece coupe of iceboats!) Years ago the plans were
advertised in MAIB. I am sure that the standard Bolger sail could be
used. I saw a guy on our local public channel who had skis on his
boat so he could sail even when the lake was snow covered. Looked
like lotsa fun!

Your letter is great Bill, thanks!
Unfortunately I can't find my copy of BWAOM. <darn>

It seems like a well thought-out concept, IMHO (having NO experience with
iceboating), but I wonder where anyone in MN would find the combination of
(1) daylight; (2) reasonably smooth ice (3) acceptable winds and (4) any time
for leisure during the Thanksgiving (early ice) to New Years Day (too much
snow) period to permit enough sailing time to make the building of the boat
worth the bother.
OTH, we can't sail boats during the hard water season, and this one, or a
developed design, would lend itself very well to indoor construction - might
be just the thing to mitigate "SAD" while waiting for the water to soften.

a side-by-side two-seater, bow-steerer with a jib-headed sprit sail. The mast
is a two-part affair, so its definitely not designed to use the mast from a
Gypsy, but the sail area looks roughly equivalent to me, although there is no
scale and no spar dimensions on the cartoon. He makes it clear that he'd

Is there a bolger design for an iceboat that uses the
mast and sail from a gypsy?
Thanks!
