thole pins

I built a couple of removeable boards along the lines of the Ian
Ougtred idea the photos are still in the camera of course.
the y are basically a piece of 3/4 ply cut with the top like a
overhanging wave .
a small rope goes over the top of it to stop the oar falling out .
another rope runs 2' down the oar and ties round the oar. To change
gear you just twist the oararound.
the plate has a leather face to stop chafing so there is no leather
on the oar.it all works smoothly . Im pushing a 31' folding schooner
with 1 10' oar in up to 5knts of wind.
2 can make headway against 10 knots, just.
i row standing up , facing forward , very easy and comfortable
cheers paul.
sorry no piccies
