[bolger] Re: Used Sails?

David,
As a gaff sail needs to be more fully cut (i.e.: have more draft or "belly")
and usually requires at least one broadseam along the head (between peak and
throat) you will probably not wind up with an optimal sail. It would be
better to sell the sail to someone with a marconi rig and use the money to
offset the cost of a proper gaff sail. Sailrite does very good gaff sail
kits, in my experience, and they cost half of what a finished sail would go
for. However, I have sailed boats with some pretty poor fitting sails and
gotten along fine. The trimming options with a four-sided sail can make
anything short of a burlap bag work. You won't point too high, and you
definitely won't win any races, but you Will move....

I've been browsing throughhttp://www.thesailwarehouse.com/

Lots of sails very cheap.

Anyone know anything about matching up existing sail, recutting, etc.

If I find a sail with the right foot dimension and roughly the right
angle along the leach, can I cut the head off and get a reasonable
gaffrig?
