Having used both my Teal and my Gull as tenders for my Scooner, it's
beyond me while anyone would use anything besides a Junebug or
similar for that sort of work. The Gull's flair is pretty, but it's A
LOT easier to step from boat to boat when I use the Teal.

The sailing part is one thing very much in favor of a Junebug or
Surf. I've been using my GLD in the place of my Teal for beach
fishing. The GLD is much, much better coming and going through the
surf; it's shape makes it faster (better for getting out of the way
of waves,) and it's shape is better if you can't get out of the way
of waves. And when you're right on the fish it's nice not to have the
sail getting in the way of the fishing.

But on the days when I have to look for fish, I wish I was in my
teal. Rowing is fine, but there's nothing like letting the wind to
the work. If the JB rows well, and the intended area offers the
chance to hoist a sail...

Better idea: build both and use as needed!

P.S. Yes, you will get lots of the right kind of attention where ever
you go with a GLD.

My usual knee jerk responce to this kind of query, on this list, has been to
catagorically recommend the June Bug. Amazing initial stability. A small
pack of hyper active pit bulls wouldn't be able to tip her. Easy, fast and
cheap to build. But in this case I think I side with David re. the winning
attributes of the Gull. JB will take a much heavier load, but starts to
loose stability as the load approaches maximum. From what I've heard, Gull
is at her stiffest just before you sink her from overload. JB does launch
easily, but weighs at least 100 lbs (mine is easily 30-50 lbs. more than
that). Not exactly a one person portagable craft. She does row very easily,
though not nearly as fast as GLD. JB will plane beautifully under sail, but
has little glide between oar strokes. JB is very roof topable if you're not
too fussy about the finish on your vehicle. If you have a mild mannered dog
and intend for oar power to propel the craft, GLD is probably the better
choice between these two. And even though I trully love everything about my
JB, including her looks, the attention she attracks tends to range from
amusement to outrage. Gull is more likely to evoke admiration and envy.
