Are you familiar with Bolger's yuloh experiments with the 12ft.
sailboat Swallow? See 30-Odd Boats? Since it is about his first
experience with a yuloh, I wouldn't regard it as a definitive
opinion, but it's interesting.

These are both technologies that work pretty well on a lot of boats.
I know some guys who use yullohs instead of a kicker. In this case
on tris. The use a ball hitch mount. Interestingly, Bolger designed
his 16' catamaran as a test bed for yullohs. But obviously they work
just as well on a mono.

The only thing about Junk rigs is that they have quite a bit of drag
associated with them. So they aren't ideal on faster boats, so
rarely a problem with Bolger boats. I would say that the most
important point is to decide what you need the boat for other than as
a means to carry your sail and oar, and then design to that service,
the rig and the oar can be added.
For a winter project I'm looking at making a yuloh / sail (maybe
junkrigged) powered boat, two person (aprox.375 lb.combined before the
holiday food fest :) )capacity, plus 100lbs gear, in the 14 - 16 foot
range that would be at home operating between 0 - 16 knot winds on a
large lake. Preferably stich and glue type construction.

I'm looking for a boat design and any other practical suggestions the
list members may have.

All I know about yuloh's I found at

I really like the idea of being able to stand and look forward as I
explore the shoreline, conditions allowing. My beef with rowing is
that I always feel that I'm looking in the wrong direction unless I
stand and row looking forward which I find awkward. For years I've
really enjoyed paddling but my back really complains more than it did
so I would like to be able to stand up if I wanted to rather then
always have to sit.

As for the junk rig, I've played around with the rig for a few years
now so am comfortable converting a more standard sail design to the
junk rig.

Thanks in advance and enjoy your holidays
