I ordered three China diesels from Hardy Day back in 94. The two marine engines never showed up and all I ended up
with is one generator version. Hardy retired about then and left his son Loren in charge. Customer service went steadily
downhill so my next diesel purchase was a Daewoo.

The china diesels are manufactured in several independent plants throughout the country and all parts are
interchangable. The design is German. I'm told Volkswagon injectors will fit this engine. Quality is luck of the draw.
Hardy used to travel to China every year to keep up with who was building the best engines at the time.

Efficiency is actually quite good - better than some modern diesels, particularly those of high speed design. In
1800rpm generator service the China diesel will often run 10,000 hours or more. I don't know about the marine version.
Yanmar, Kubota, Lombardini and similar lightweight engines rarely make 2,000 hours. This may not be much of a
problem in marine applications where corrosion, abuse and lack of maintenance usually gets them in as little as 50
hours.
