RE : RE : [bolger] BOAT SOFTWARE

Well most of the big boat design software have a module for simulating
the behavior of tanks, but I don't know a cheap one.

You can see previews at :
http://www.wumtia.soton.ac.uk/brochures/HST.html
http://www.c-tremblay.com/

and many more...

If anyone know of a freeware one... please tell, I'm interested too...

"win 2000 is built on NT tech DOS doesn't exist."
"not 'cmd' which is another kind of VM"

Aaron and Philippe,

Please don't tell my WinXP and Win2K systems that they can't run DOS, or
do so using the 'CMD' command; I'm sure you're both correct, but they
still insist on running DOS applications just fine for me..... Ain't
computers fun? (And thank goodness for really excellent design
programs.)

David

W2000 has a DPMI virtual machine which can be configured easily. You
have to run 'command' (and not 'cmd' which is another kind of VM) to
invoke it. I use it everyday and most of the dos software I used works
perfectly.
You have to be logged in as an administrator to install old W95 software
and grant access to you user if you do not usualy log in as an
administrator further.

Hi Aaron
You could helpfully be more specific. What have software have you tried?
With what result?
Mr Carlson's Chine Hull Designer works fine on my Win2k box, as does Blue
Peter Marine Systems' Hullform (V8, shareware FWIW). (Polycad 6 runs too but
I found it very buggy; rather like a beta release.)

Cheers
Derek
Aaron, there are several ways to skin this particular cat. Click on the
Start button, select Run, and type in 'CMD' and press the enter key. This
should, if porous memory serves (no Win2K box on board at present, sorry),
give you a DOS window within which you can change directories to the
software location, type the program name and press enter again. This should
do it. An alternative is to open the 'run' prompt as previously described
and enter the full program directory location and name (i.e. -
'C:\hulls\hulls.exe') and press enter. Finally, consider making a shortcut
link on your desktop to the program to minimize all this clicking and
typing.. Good luck. Remember, if at first you don't succeed, you're only
having a learning experience!

David
