What has been the experience with the Sonic out-drive
unit? Bolger encourages them as part of the
"no-holes-through-the-hull, high reliability"
philosophy, so I guess they have neither the
reliability problems of the traditional out-drive, nor
the big hole through the waterline at the transom
covered by a rubber bellows. Anybody able to describe
how they work and their general reputation?

I am guessing $50K in materials, and a (few?)
years 'spare' time to home build Fiji.
I have "just" the right spot picked out
in my back yard for such a project :)

Tahiti, if I remember right, is the blue-water version
of Topaz. It is a displacement cruiser designed for
the Duetz diesel. Neat boat. About forty feet, I
think. One is under construction in Florida

On topic,
I was just thinking about that recent
article in MAIB discussing the
assembly sequence of Fiji, (or was
it Tahiti), [and as I don't have the
magazine in my hand,] I am confronted
with the fact that I confuse these
two designs. Fiji is the long distance
sailing cruiser, but I am not so sure
about Tahiti. It is the long distance
power cruiser? I couldn't easily find
this info in the database or the 'photos'
here at this group. I recall that their
hull shapes and sizes are similar.
And more, whew! Fiji is awesome, my
next dream boat!
