I can say that PB&F has changed my life. I have been in severe pain
for the last year and because of insurance complications I have not
had surgery yet. But have been able to get most of the Small Boat
Jounrnals/Wooden Boats since they started printing and also 4 of PB&F
books. I have promised to compile all of the articles and post them
but because of "things" I have not yet done this.
I did ask PB&F if I could help compile all of their boats into a
catalogue form and they told me they already have had offers but
their system would require their help so it would still keep them
from tasks they have on hand that are more important. I don't blame
them because they are making money from designs the draw not from the
sale of designs they have made thanks to common sense boats and
others.
All of my reading and discovery has kept me semi sane. Other members
from this site have been so kind to me also. Without this site and my
friends here I might have not made it to posting today. I have
enjoyed the hunt to find Bolger designs. Some I would never build but
I can see how the design fit its criteria for the existence of the
boat. I owe a lot to this site and hopefully soon I'll be able to pay
back with a site where you can see a major portion of Bolger boats
and Phil's writings about them. More on that later.
Sure it is hard to find all of Bolger's 700+ designs but it makes
it fun looking. It is bad if all you need is one particular boat to
fulfill your dreams. All in all I have found this group of people to
be the most well informed Bolgerista's on the planet next to Bolger
himself and if you cannot get an answer here then PB&F is the only
other place you should go. Bolger boats in my opinion are also fun to
dream about since I am in no condition to build one yet, but I
promise soon!

The below referenced message (17458) containing Bolger's response hits the nail on the head. PCB earns a portion of
his living from books and publications related to his designs as does Bob Hicks at MAIB. Much as I would like to see a
compilation of Bolger material in one place I think we should be mindful of their interests.

I think a cd or database of all the boats would be great. A database
would be best in my opinion and possibly there could be a charge for
access. Why does Bolger not have such? I would think the database best
because it could be updated with new information whereas a cd would only
have way was available when burned.
I am new to the list and was looking over the possibilities of a boat to
build. Finding much on the boats and trying to compare them was not
easy for me. After I went to a lot of sites I found much that was
helpful but still feel that there is much I have missed.

Basically we said "hell with it" and compiled the database already
mentioned.
What really seems feasible is for someone to scan all the MAIB
articles to a CD and offer it for sale. It would require the consent
of both PCB and MAIB, but other than the tedium, it would be pretty
easy.

I produce such CDs. They are tedious but do work well. I don't think PCB
would ever give anyone the rights to do such a production, let alone MAIB.

The reported response given by
Phil Bolger & Friends to this
request is: that they would
rather make use of their time
designing new boats instead of
spending their time cataloging
their old designs.
I can't argue with such logic.
Personally, I am hoping some
Bolger enthusiast somewhere will
volunteer to put together a list of
their boat designs "with pictures
and layouts" and let those two
focus on continuing to churn out
unconventional boat designs.
Another option is to go through
back issues of the magazine
'Messin' About in Boats' (and
I understand that Bob Hicks
sells photocopies of reprints of
old issues at a very reasonsable
price). The database of designs
here often includes a reference
to which MAIB issue(s) the design
has appeared.
Also, you can search out the
out of print books Phil Bolger
has written.
