IMO, Judging from the writing

took up the banter, and then
she too dropped out after a

He hates computers. SA said in a fax that, if they responded to email, they
would be able to do NOTHING else.
I don't think Phill every posted to the group, I suspect it was always SA.

Remember the open-air cafe' scene in the first "Indiana Jones" movie?
The French archeologist is showing a pocket watch to Jones:
"See this watch? $10.oo at any shop in the market place. But cover it
with sand and leave it in the desert for a thousand years . . . and it's
priceless !!"
Guess what? From a DESIGN & FUNCTIONAL standpoint . . . it's STILL a $10
buck watch !!
If someone were/is a historian, or putting together a doctorial thesis,
or a paper for the Smithsonian {a la Chappell} then compiling an
annotated list of 'Phil Bolger - A body of Work' would make a great deal
of sense.
However, from monitoring this Group, I'd say that most of us are more
concerned with the practical aspect of 'how much boat can I afford'. In
addition, designers & engineers tend to work in a linear manner. That
is, the good ones are continually working on new ideas with the
intention of moving forward. Some ideas never get beyond the 'thinking'
stage . . . for an engineer or architect {naval or other}those
'thoughts' are often with a pencil on a piece of graph paper. In Phil's
case it's probably a 'cartoon'.
After that may come a 'proof of concept' model or 'one off '. A few
years ago I built his 'BEE'. If you simply look at her, you know it led
to an entire series of designs that continue to be lauded in this group.
[A quote from 'Boats with an Open Mind' verifies this conclusion; "The
half-scale model which proved the concept started to come unstuck due to
vibration in her sponson bottoms after jumping some steep waves;
longitudinal stiffeners cured the trouble within reason and were carried
over into the bigger boat". It would make NO SENSE for Phil Bolger, NA
to get involved in minutia about this 'concept model' - he has already
moved on to an entire CLASS of boats developed from it.
I now relinquish the 'soapbox' . . .

I think a cd or database of all the boats would be great. A database
would be best in my opinion and possibly there could be a charge for
access. Why does Bolger not have such? I would think the database best
because it could be updated with new information whereas a cd would only
have way was available when burned.
I am new to the list and was looking over the possibilities of a boat to
build. Finding much on the boats and trying to compare them was not
easy for me. After I went to a lot of sites I found much that was
helpful but still feel that there is much I have missed.

PCB earns a portion of his living from books and publications related to
his designs as does Bob Hicks at MAIB. Much as I would like to see a
compilation of Bolger material in one place I think we should be mindful
of their interests.

. . .their system would require their help so it would still keep them
from tasks they have on hand that are more important. I don't blame
them because they are making money from designs the draw not from the
sale of designs they have made thanks to common sense boats and
others.

Sure it is hard to find all of Bolger's 700+ designs but it makes
it fun looking. It is bad if all you need is one particular boat to
fulfill your dreams.
