I think you can do better than that if you choose carefully. There
are popular models that might well sell for more after 5 years of use
and renewal. I'm thinking especially of Carl Alberg boats like
Triton's, Bristol 27's, or Alberg 30's. These boats are very popular
in Chesapeake Bay due to the moderate draft. (Average draft when they
wer built; shoal draft by today's standards.)

$80,000 is steep. He had a builder build it for him I believe.
There lies the advantage a homebuilder has. If he/she does not
expect to recoup his/her labor, then you can break even or even make
a small profit if you have used decent materials and produced a
quality product.

I sold my Micro for only slighlty more than the cost of materials.
With just one add in Soundings and MAIB, I received more than 10
responses and two solid offers. I did use marine ply and sheathed
the exterior in glass set in epoxy. The result was a great looking
product that met the needs of a second owner.

Oh my.. I had no idea. Thought it was recent ;)

Yes, at $80,000 I seriously doubt he'll get a buyer. The boat may be
worth that much in materials and labor, but the market is definitely
not good for ANY boats right now, let alone one which is not FG, Steel
or Aluminum... or a classic woodie. I mean, when I can get a throwaway
FG 27 footer for less than 10k, have 5 years out of her and toss her?

BRIGHT THREAD has been up for sale on Yachtworld since at least May
of last year. Nine months and counting. A beautiful boat, to be
sure, but despite the quality of the work I'm skeptical that he'll
find a buyer at that price. (Incidentally, the listed price is the
same now as it was nine months ago.)
I can attest to her looking as good in person as in the photo. I had
the pleasure of sailing past her in Stage Harbor in Chatham last
summer. She is well maintained and gorgeous.

The photos of Bright
Thread are wonderful.

Wow. I want one!

Can anybody identify
the diesel motor?
Stumbled across this entry in Yachtworld quite by accident. Of this
boat, Phil said in Boats With an Open Mind that she had THE finest
finish she had ever seen put on one of his boats. She is currently for
sale by owner.
