Ever loaned your boat?
Avast ye' sawbbie!
Good day! I hope you're not freezing anything vital to the workings
off as I am here in the Great White Frozen North of sunny southern
Canada.
Once again, thanks for exploring the group. I hope this ends up being
useful and interesting to us all. Sure, the thought of watching a new
friend disssapear in the distance, at the helm of YOUR boat, is a bit
frightening. But, what the heck, you emailed for months, talked on
the phone a few times, took him for a checkride, so relax. It'' be
great. Remember that soon you'll be conning their dreamboat out into
unknown waters. You have confidence that YOU can handle his vessle,
right.
If you have had any first hand experience with a boat (or even a home
exchange) I urge you to post a message about your experiences. Good,
bad or mediocre, we want to hear it.
A friend left me in control of his Tanzer 22 (a fin keel, pocket
sloop, sleeps 4) for two years. I marveled at his trust, yet I
workewd my tail off on her and had agreat two seasons. I rented
houseboats from a local company for 3 years and couldn't figure out
how he could sleep at night when he had any boats out. Yet I, and I
guess most, always brought them back safe and sound. We've done one
side of a swap with new friends from Amsterdam, they've been on
our "Adagio", but we've yet to get around to going over the pond to
try theirs. And I'm in near final negotiations for "real, non-
simulteanous" exchanges for an English narrowboat and a tri-hull
houseboat in Florida for this summer. A new internet friend is coming
up from Georgia to use "Adagio" for a couple of weeks in July in
exchange for parts (keel, masts, booms, sails) needed to complete my
Bolger Micro. (seehttp://www.brucesboats.com,the Pirogue & Micro
page)
I can't wait to hear read your tomes, musings, or nightmares.
