Re: [bolger] water ski?
I have gotten so used to Bolger's capabilities I am starting to think that

Wouldn't that be a sight! A 50' Wyoming, looking like a 1920's version of a
commuter boat doing 30 knots with little wake.
I wonder how I'd keep the dishes in the cupboard and the wife calm?

I still think an over-powered Wyo would be the ultimate! If you're
skier falls, SLOW DOWN and turn around to pick 'em up. I'd love to
see that boat doing 30 knots with a skier in tow, or 40 knots pulling
a barefooter!
I bet wakeboarders wouldn't like it thought. The wake would probably
be too flat.
Finish that boat, Jeff!

> >> How about a Wyoming with a 150hp motor! No, I would not use a Wyo since gradual turns only at speeds above 20 knts
is the rule, no exceptions unless you want to get hurt. At slow speeds and
the centerboard down she can almost turn on her length, but add speed and
she'll start a flat slide and with a flat bottom and sharp chine the Wyo
would eventually trip. I would doubt you could get the Wyo to bank in a
turn at all.
Same a car sliding and hitting a curb, at slow speeds it'll jar you only but
at higher speeds it'll flip over. Depending on the speed you could roll a
Wyo.
No flat bottomed Bolger box boat will fit these requirements. Sneakeasy and
Idaho are probably to light and would dance around at the stern pulling a
skier.
But the Fast Motor sailer has some promise, cabin, speed, power, and sail if
you run out of fuel. Picture the MacGregor 26X, only a lot easier on your
pocket book if you build your own.
Jeff
Would it turn quickly? So you want fast acceleration, galley and
overnight accommodations, and presumably if you're thinking Bolger
power sharpie, easy and inexpensive to build.
I'm not sure a boat with the Wyo's speed and capaciousness, but is
also nibble exists at any price. No matter how rich you are, the laws
of physics still apply. Bolger himself offers that at speed, careless
handling of the Wyo could be disastrous.

You might take a look at the Cabin Clam Skiff in the photos section
here. I'm not sure it was designed with ski speed in mind but...

my advice is suspect, but....
1) Fast motorsailor. With the 90hp engine, it did speeds over 25kts,
with a good interior.
2) Fiddler II. This is nearly a perfect box in the 15' size. The
problems with getting on and off the boat, and of having the driver
seen a swimmer near the boat may be prohibitive.
3) I would look up the box sharpie named Inlet Runner. I don't have
the specs in front of me, but ...
This is a good question to fax to PCB&F. Let us know the answer.
