RE: [bolger] winter
I agree, I also like the cold; but it has been an unusually tough winter
here in southern New England. My micro is under a snow-covered tarp, iced
into a snowbank off the side of the driveway. I look at it every day
wondering when I'll be able to get back inside it and finish off the
interior, install the companionway, etc. At least mast production is going
well - two birdsmouth spars done, two more in the works. Neat technique,
produces a very light and stiff spar; hope they hold up well!
In the meantime a buddy and I have been distracting ourselves with a
home-grown iceboat project made up of 2x4's and a windsurfer rig, with some
gen-u-wine cast iron iceboat runners made by my friend's uncle on his lunch
hour in the Herreshoff yard foundry when he worked there, back in the 40's.
Unfortunately this winter, every time we've gotten solid, clear ice here on
Cape Cod, it snowed the very next day, so our creation is still awaiting its
first flight. Maybe next year - I'm headed to the carribean tomorrow for 2
weeks to visit an old friend from my air force days! Hoping for a quick and
sudden thaw while I'm gone.....
Daydreams of bobbing in Vineyard Sound in my finished micro have gotten me
through all this ice and darkness.....

Here in new england the winter has been hard, but I find the cold
fresh air good for ones soul it renews one. And in February you can
feel that spring is not far off as the light returns. Soon people
will start preparing their boats for launching, Its been an
interedting winter. j
