Re: A valuable lesson...
I had a similar thing happen when I was building my gypsy -
the "indoor" space I rented had roof leaks that I wasn't told of and
the first time it rained my plans got soaked, but fortunately not to
illegibility.

When I read of this I cringe and remember a similar thing that happened on a six figure scale some years ago. My
employer purchased design rights in the form of a drawing set from a Japanese company. Our (mis)managenent did
not have the foresight to make copies and secure the originals. A year later we had to pay dearly (something like $1000
a sheet) for replacements from Japan because many of the originals were gone - mostly scattered around on the shop
floor or sent out to vendors.
NEVER USE ORIGINAL DRAWINGS!!! Even if it means spending money to have copies made.

For your penance, sing 12 rounds of "Row Row your Boat", and ask the boat building gods for forgiveness. But seriously, am sorry to hear about your loss.

folded the plans up and put them underneath my mobile bench. After
much discussion, he left and I packed up in a hurry, concentrating
more on sweeping up before wife got home than anything else. I took
the garbage out early next morning only to find my neatly folded
sheet of Surf plans sitting on the front lawn, soaked and ruined
after an overnight downpour, all the ink had run leaving much of it
unreadable. The only consolation was that I had finished with that
sheet, but it didn't soften the disappointment. GET PHOTOCOPIES AND
LAMINATE, LEAVE ORIGINALS IN THE DRAWER!!! (like I did with my last
boat but was too lazy to on this occasion.) I trust that I will not
be ex-communicated from the group because of this sacreligious act of
neglect. Confession is good for the soul.
