Waterproof, not! I drowned a Magellan GPS2000 last summer. To make a
long story short, I flipped the racing Dinghy, the Magellen was in the
beer cooler, the cooler leaked, the unit stopped. I mailed it back to
Magellan and they replaced if for free! Fantastic customer service.
They are waterproof above the waterline.

List,
I love toys!!! My latest is a Magellan GPS 315. Got it at a local sproting
goods store for $140. I have two excuses. I am an amatuer aviator and a
sailor. For sailing, it is a tremendous feedback machine for determining
boat performance. When I owned Scram Pram, I found that it would indeed go
3 kts on a starboard tack and the tack 94 degrees and go 3 knots on the
other tack. I did this on multiple tacks for verification. This unit is
impressively more powerful that the 1994 model Magellan 7000 that it
replaces. I am ordering the Aviation Database for it. There is also a
Marine Database. It is only $44 and I will probably buy it if I ever go out
on Galveston Bay or into the Gulf.
A pilot reviews stuff like this for an aviation web page. He says that the
Magellan has the most sensative receiver of the small units. It works
fairly well in my office! It fits in a shirt pocket. It is designed for
marine use. It is water proof. It has many marine features. (it's a marine
unit!!!).
I really have enjoyed taking it flying in the short week I have had it!!!!

on Galveston Bay or into the Gulf.
