Battery questions

Greetings, all. Living in a solar home that was powered by over 30 of those deep cycle "golf cart" batteries before we upgraded to bigger ones, I would like to shate a few comments. None of the lead acid batteries should ever be discharged below 1/2 their capacity. Leave them discharged, and you will need to replace them. If you can stand weight, the 6
volt golf cart batteries will outperform the typical "marine" 12 volt battery and outlast it too. Two years can be an old 12 volt battery, but by taking care of them, we have seen 8 years of service from the T105 golf cart type. Do not be put off by the 18 month guarantee - this is an industrial guarantee and not a pro rated, designed to get you to buy
another. Lastly, remember that most home chargers only trickle in a charge - it takes a LONG time to charge a battery with one of these, and they DO NOT charge at rated charging. Lastly, buy a bulb type hydrometer if you want to know what your battery is doing. OR, get a little 12 volt marine battery, don't worry, and run the holy heck out of it having fun
- as I have been known to do myself. Best wishes, Jim
