Re: Rigging Gypsy

On my Gypsy I made the gudgeons and pintles from 3/4 plywood and 3/4
hardwood dowels and rigged more or less as shown in the plans,
anchoring the sheet on the rudder - I did make the sheet 2 part as I
found it hard to hold in a stiff breeze. This has worked fine.

I had my Windsprint rigged as you describe with eyebolts and a brass rod for
gudgeons and pintles and the sheet turning block tied to the top of the
rudder. No problems to report with twice the sail area of your Gypsy.

Subject: [bolger] Rigging Gypsy

| I would appreciate some advice on rigging Gypsy.
| The plans only mention running the sheet through a
| sheet bail on the rudder. I am worried about my
| homemade gudgeon and pintle giving way. I stuck
| to the Payson desing of homemade brackets and a
| brass rod. Very functional and saves a ton of money
| but I am concerned about the load on the hardware
| caused by the sheet bail? Any suggestions or just
| go with the bail?
|
| I started this project many years ago and lost interest
| to pursue a couple of years of golf, work, etc. I put
| the numbers on her today and it needs one more coat of
| varnish.
