Re: [bolger] Re: Canned Spam defense

I think they have the group address already! My ISP has anti spam software that works
pretty well on my own mail; what gets past them I can filter. Wish Yahoo could do the same...

For more on his maybe we should switch to coffee_lounge?

The people at powerpipe.com say that
eboattrade.com is 'hosted' through
a domain called datingopinions.com

Complaints directed there might work,
might not...

Bolger Boat are good ways to get
dates in my opinion, so... On topic!

:p

What has probably happened is that all of you have confirmed that your
addresses are good email addresses and are now in the spam pot of good
addresses so that you can receive even more spam.

The mind set of spammers is foreign to the polite, empathic norm of this
group. The concept behind spam is to send to as many as possible, a response
of 1 in 10,000 is cost effective because of the low costs involved, be
dammed to the fact that it might offend the other 9,999. Responding to them
merely confirms your address.

The only way to attack spammers is to go after the ISP's that host them and
make it poor business.

I have some of the tools at work for tracking ISP's and can publish here if
others are interested. It is definitely off topic. Greg Carlson our moderator
mentioned some a few days ago in his posting on eboat spam.

I liked Chuck's action so much I just did the same. I copy and pasted
Mark's letter, appended my signature and made the subject "enough
already!". Then pasted same into a message to the six addresses at
the eboattrade site. Only took a minute to do all six.

Hope they enjoy our attentions at least as much as I've enjoyed
theirs.

Well put, Mark. I took the additional step of writing to each of the addresses on this page:http://www.eboattrade.com/helpalthough I admit that my letter was not as succinct as yours. Maybe they will get the idea if we all let them know how we feel.

Chuck
Hi,

I belong to several Yahoo discussion groups devoted to small boat building, design and
use. Each of them has been bombarded on a daily basis recently by notices re: your service.

I'd like to suggest to you that we are now aware of your business offering. Further, that
you are now generating a large degree of ill will through this effort. I believe you now
reduce the likelihood of any member of these groups trading with you subsequently with
inverse proportion to the number of messages we receive.

Sincerely,
Mark Albanese

in the "old days" if you wanted to make a point, an email bomb over stuffed their site with crap. a thick book works great. Not that I do things like that.... anymore.
