Dakota's Cabinetry

I didn't consider it because the cabinetry, as I built it, contributes
to the stiffness of the hull. I began by installing fore and aft
girders of doubled 1/2" ply on either side of the center aisle the
full length of the hull. The top of the girder is level with the
waterline and about 15 inches deep at the deepest part of the
hull. All the bulkheads and cabinetry are glued and taped to the
girders.
Tom,

I can help regarding the Dakota. It is (approximately) 38' X 8' and draws
about 11 inches. As you can see from Bruce's scans, the Dakota has options
for the cabin. The plans are metric. There are four sheets of plans. One
sheet has the plan and profile views of the basic hull drawn to 1:15 scale
plus expansions of the same for laying out on flat sheets. Another has
details and sections at various locations such as the transom for the
"streetcar" style' version. A third sheet has plan and profile drawings of
the "streetcar" style cabin option drawn to scale, but no dimensions given.
The fourth has some alternate cabin arrangements. Once you complete the
basic hull, you can be as creative as you wish with the cabin. I am building
the "streetcar" version. You can see some photos in the FILES section of the
group's web site under "Dakota" and some more in the PHOTOS section under
"Vince's Dakota".

Building is rightside up. The panels are joined end to end, prefinished and
then flipped over onto the strongback. If you want more information about
the steps in building, etc. you are welcome to e-mail me. I think you can
reach me via the group web site.

I had not looked at your pictures in a while. The boat is comming
together wonderfully. I congratulate you.

Did Bolger suggest buying the kitchen cabinets and equivalent from
Home Depot? Did you consider doing so?

Peter
You may or may not have seen these
Bolger sketches of Dakota, a big boat
and Wyoming, she is huge!

http://www.hallman.org/bolger/Dakota/

Dakota has rocker in the bottom and
is a displacement boat. Wyoming is
long with a much flatter bottom, and
could plane with enough power. I
think that Dakota is more seaworthy.

Both the boats are way better than
the plastic floating RV houseboats
you see around!

I just joined the group hoping to learn more about the Dakota, and
Wyoming. I am trying to decide which to build and looking for any
boats I can see, and input from any owners I can find. I will be
using it in the Florida Keys.....Back in the Florida Bay for extended
camping.....

Thanks, and Hello
