I would be interested to know what reservations you have with the
Double Eagle hull shape. The hulls are very similar to Bolger
sharpie hulls, though a lot narrower than their sharpie
counterparts. Bolger joked early on that he simply divided a Loose
Moose lengthwise and made two hulls. Double Eagle was never meant to
compete with modern, lightweight, high tech multihulls but it ought
to at least perform as well as Loose Moose for example probably
better because of the narrower, by half, hulls. As for planeing, the
hull shape is all wrong, they are definately displacement hulls.
There is too much rocker to plane except perhaps briefly.

I have always loved the look of double eagle, but I have a huge
reservation about the hull shape and drag, unless you are planing to
plane it. I also think you can find some simpler designs to build.
There are a lot of power cats and tris out there, but on the
simplicity side, try: www.multihulldesigns.com
Another interesting site, though I don't know whether it has plans,
is this one:
http://www.raftvoyagers.com/Coral%20Island%20Yachts%20and%
20Charters.htm
I particularly like the funkadelia of the Mirage Proa at the very
bottom of the page.
Also try:http://goldcoastyachts.com/
They have a nice series of motor sailers, and the wave piercers are
cool also, though not like a Double Eagle.
I made a small cat in box ply, and last year thought of extending and
wave piercing it. I decided not to go al that distance quite yet,
but it I do feel it is perfectly feasible in simple form.

I had not realized Bolger had adapted the Double Eagle
for power. Does anybody have information about the
power version? Sam

Bolger's Double Eagle sailing cat design is available in a power
version. It was featured in a MAIB issue but I don't have it. You
can see some drawings and construction photos of the sailing version

I've never heard of a bolger power cat (other than the wee Fishcat),
although I know Bob Cushing (of MicroTrawler, Chebacco Motor Sailor,
and Fast Motor Sailor fame) built a pCat a few years ago. I don't
knoe if Phil designed it, I think I recal Bob saying it was his own
drawing, but it was influenced by PB for sure.

I posted earlier about the Dakota - I also wanted to know if any one
knows about any Bolger poewer cat designs. I love the Dakota, and the
Wyoming but I love the room a cat provides. I figured with the
efficiancy of those hulls in a cat form you could have quite a nice
boat, and still get many of the benefits of bolgers hulls... any
thoughts ???
