Re: Micro "Rust Knot" arrives in Kingston

I love the arrow straight rub rails (hope I can get them off, any
tips on removing 200 ring nails without ripping up the ply?). She
needs a new main mast, windows, a small deck rot repair, vents fore
and aft, rudder end plate and flotation, but I hope to float her in a
week or two (Yeah, I know, famous last words of all boatbuilders).

I especially like Rick's suggestion of making a double decker Micro,
if I remove the keel and add the extra lead to the bottom boats keel
it just might be crazy enough to work!

Stern to Stern ! & with small outrigger, voila, the world's first micro-proa.

I certainly can vouch for the impressive appearance of Bruces' truck
(although he really should get a RV for all that incredible driving
all over the place he does!). When Bruce came by my ALL-OUTDOORS-ALL-
THE-TIME boat shop in the boonies last summer, I first saw the truck
and was jealous! I wanted my car/toolbox on wheels to look just like
it.Unfortunately,my toolbox has real"Rusties" and no amount of Rust
Check can save her, according to Dr. Rust (aka. Bruce).
Oh well,as long as the toolbox on wheels last long enough to get
WINDERMERE launched I'll be happy enough.Afterward,my lawyer can buy
me something more fitting for a gentleman boatbum.Ha!
If Bruce keeps up this business of fleet-building-collecting, could
it be much longer before we find the BRUCE HECTOR CANADIAN MUSEUM OF
BOLGER BOATS?
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, not the slightest bit worried about Bruces' sanity, from
along the shores of the Mighty St.Lawrence...........

Hey Bruce,

Thanks for the kind words.

Two weeks ago we drive 980 miles (I have no idea how many kilometers
that would be) just to sail and beach camp in Sage for three nights and
four days. However, Sage weighs nearly nothing compared to Reddy. I
don't think the old Chevy could survive a trip to Kingston and back.........

Indeed.
As someone who has personally seen this paint scheme, I can assure all,
it is, ... quite striking ....

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the great reference to the Rust Check colour scheme, I've
got to post a pic to my site.

We really enjoyed meeting you, your son and of course, Reddy last
month. It just made our California trip worthwhile. Any plnas on
traillering Reddy a few thousand klicks north east to the Kingstonb
Messabout?

Bruce
The "Rust Knot" is safely parked in front of my home for the night.
Tomorrow she'll be dragged to my shop for some rot fixing, mast
fitting and numerous small repairs. Then she'll be painted in the
company livery: Bright yellow overall, black tim, fake rust
everywhere, huge black rust holes with the "Rusties" evil red
eyeballs and claws scrabbling for more meat fromthe perforations.
It's really quite stiking, ask Peter Lenihan or Chuck Leinweber. I
should be noticed when pulling her behind a similarly painted truck,
no?

I bought her from John Katrein of Chicago for a mutually agreeable
sum (he drives a hard bargain, but then threw in a Mexican lunch. I
naturally ordered the best in the house and more than one excellent
Dos Equis Obscura beers, in a feeble attempt to get my money's worth)
and dragged her 1200 kilometers back to Kingston this weekend (2400
km. total in under 48 hrs, so I will brook no whining about how far
it is to the Kingston Messabout) in a marathon of driving, eating and
two nights of sleeping in the cheapest motels I could find. I mean,
if you're considering sleeping in a Micro, why do you need a
comfortable bed and big shing bathroom anyway?

Pictures tomorrow, (the scanners at work) but dreams and wild ideas
are already coursing through what little gray matter I have left
after staring at the dshed lines for 24 hours out of 36.

What about mating her with "Riff-Raff" (the Micro I'm actually
building) into a giant, albeit short "Micro-Maran" creating the
world's first catamaran that's wider than it is long? Would this save
on marina fees yet float a decently sized cottage? Or can I mate them
lengthwise, like the Brick schooner in BWAOM "Grout" to double
thewaterline length on the same (OK, it'll be coke bottle shaped)
beam for increased speed. Or should I start a livery of rental Micro,
here, in the beautiful 100 Islands?

The minde reels, gotta' go fill my rum glass.
