Teal rows nicely. It's just for 2 people max.

(Old list members who've read my praise of Brick may stop reading now.)
Well, if you need the capacity of the $200 sailboat and still be able to
cartop it, there's always the Brick. Isn't fast and not fun to row, but
certainly fun and comfortable to sail. Not even hopeless upwind if you
buy the sail Payson sells. And if you're stubborn it can be rowed back
upwind when you mess up the rig, as I did, in strong (20mph+) wind. As
far as cartopping, ours weighs, as I recall, less than 75 lbs, tho it's
a little awkward solo due only to it's depth and width. I get inside and
hold it up by the bottom upside down, but it's hard to see where I'm
going. A snap with two people. By myself, recovering from a back
problem, I put it on top of our (or is it my, I forget) Nymph on top of
my Saturn SL to go to a messabout, but it did take me a while and I'm a
moderately large and sometimes immoderately stubborn guy. Much easier
without the Nymph.

My guess is Teal will probably row better than either but will have a
lot less capacity. Teal's sides are 16" high and a little bit less than
13' long on the top. Bottom is a little less than 11' long, 3' wide. Or
at least that's what I get from a quick look in the book.

Teal will be a bit hard to car top simply because it has pointy
ends. If you want to car top it 'bottom up' it will want to rotate
around the ONE point on the ground, 'top up' will be better
but not great. For car topping I would want transom on
one or both ends.

Dave Carnell won't mind what you do. I made mine 19'. It's heavy but I have a trailer. Trailers are so easy to use and one can find a used one for a hundred and a half if one keeps ones two eyes open. Shorten the featherwind if desired. Try to keep some proportions. Don't narrow it too much though or she won't hold up to a sail.

Subject: [bolger] Featherwind/$200 Sailboat/Nutmeg/Teal/Charles Darwin

Well, I cut out and (a?)butted together the sides and bottom of the
Featherwind/$200 Sailboat/Nutmeg. And the bottom was the last to be
done and when it was done I picked the bottom up and it immediately
hit me that the weight and size of length and width of the whole
thing was going to be way to unweildy for me and my Toyota Carolla
and roof top portaging...so...I've decided that Teal is now the boat
of my immediate dreams. And it's been a day since I put my order for
Teal plans in the mail and they're still not here yet...
I can't stand the suspense...does anyone know if I'll be able to
canabalize, from the already produced fiberglassed and epoxied sides
and bottom of the bigger sailboat, the sides and bottom of the
smaller sailboat?
And or what about just reducing somehow the bigger boat by 20% to
25%...is that legal?

Ps Is it just my experience that every time I bring up the subject of
the Teal around "our kind" that everyone has a story about this craft?
