RE: [bolger] Re: CBC Dead Horse Let's talk boats bumpers

I reckon if you have a big enough steel boat, then jet skis would make pretty good fenders between you and the dock..............? Andy

OK boys let's this is a dead horse let's talk boats.

I am getting ready for a messabout at my place. I was
going to crawl the dock and check for nails and spikes
that might hurt any boats. Do you think I need to
install bumpers. I was thinking about firehose but I
can not find any. Do you expect docks to have bumpers?

Wooden boats? Yeah, would be nice. Cut some old carpet into 16"
strips and nail it to the TOP of the deck. Flip it over the nails to
hang down. Zero cost.

Nah, each skipper is responsible for his own vessel's safe
docking/mooring. It is reasonable to expect a minimun of boat
damaging projectiles and protusioons on any structure commonly used
for tying a boat to. So go ahead, pull any big spikes, etc., but
don't bother with any bumpers.

Now mooring cleats, they're nice, and kinda' expected on a dock every
10 feet or so....
