Re: [bolger] Re: Kingston Messabout

Bruce Hector was kind enough to give me a list of Owners for the boats at
Kingston Messabout. I've just updated the site.

She's built of all dimensioned wood, no ply, by John Kern of
Kingston, Ontario. He's not a member of the group, at least as far as
I know, but he is one of my customers.

If anyone wants to contact him email me offline for his phone #.

No Lincoln, "Kingston Messabout" will be a fine moniker.

Although it's official name, primarily so I can write off the
numerous small expenses, such as enough plonk to keep even Peter
Lenihan's prodigous thirst satisfied, is "Rust Check-Amateur Boat
Messabout".
I hope the scheduling can be worked out to keep both events! The
Kingston Messabout (or should I call it the Hector messabout) deserves
to live.

You were asking about pics of the scow at the Kingston Messabout.
Jeff has three excellent shots at this site. Look under Miscellaneous.

I posted a lot of photos of the messabout on my website. Sorry for
getting shots of the bigger boats almost exclusively but I guess
that's where our current interest lies.

Anyway there are a few good shots in the bunch.

I also have a link on my main page as well.

Many thanks Jeff, and also multiple thanks for all the recognition
and thanks we've recieved online and via email for the wildly
successful 2003 Kingston Messabout. Elaine and I also had a ball.

We'll do it again next September, unless of course, there's to be a
conflicting Glousester Messabout. In which case we'll bow quietly
into the shadows and show up in Mass. with a small (or long) train of
square boats. And they don't come much squarer than a TIMS unit!

Bruce Hector
I'm late in posting a HUGE thanks to Bruce Hector for the
messabout. It was wonderful to the match faces with names I've seen
so often on this site.

We just got back today after spending a week vacationing in
Ontario. I have 70 pictures of the messabout that I'll sort through
this weekend and post on my site.

Thanks again Bruce, I'll be back, hopefully with a big boat next
time.

Hi Susan,
Haven't a fixed date yet but should(or had better be) sometime in
June.

When will the flipping be happening?

Ah mes Amis,

So the Put Luck is to be a battle of Italian Inspired chefs VS
Canadian Army trained Bean Bakers! So be it! I accept the gauntlet,
thrown down in the epoxy laden dust, and warn the beautiful Pesky,
she'll not be safe in ANY Capttn's quarters once you've had a bowl of
my Texas recipe "Cowboy Beans"!

Sincerly,
Bos'sun "Tex" Hector
Who would tell you all how his 6 weeks of boat exchanges in Europe
are coming for next summer, except, since none of them are either:
homemade or Bolger, it would be off topic. Details of the free boat
exchange program are at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freeboatexchange/
Where it's beginning to look like in addition to 2 weeks in July on
an 80' Luxe Motor in Belgium, I may be adding two weeks earlier on a
narrowboat in old Blighty, and 2 weeks on a cruiser on the Shannon
River of UIeland after. Imagine 6 weeks boating in Europe for 1 set
of air fares with no hotel bills!
Hard to take, that, TOO BLOODY RIGHT!

HJ,
I'll see if I can get them scanned this evening.Otherwise,it may

ready.

Peter

Any chances of those Gantry sketches making it on line?

As for the flipping session,I've just received from the good offices
of our Hero working sketches for a home-made gantry. This may reduce
the number of panic parties, reduce the time needed to flip the bottom
and increase the time available for beer! Pretty good,eh? Arrrgh!
Where there's a will,there's a way!!!!(or maybe a lawyer)

I'll let you know how things go as the date approaches.

Sincerely,

Bruce,
Whaddaya mean rara brewis? Don't you guys get the good stuff upstream
from me? Oh well, a case or two of that golden juice,Bras d'or,will
have to be stuffed in the trunk.
Knowing Pesky, she'll assemble some sort of Italian dish, one which
hopefully won't require a ton of preparation once at the site.Have I
ever mentioned she is a 5 star chef too?! I used to be a flee bitten
skinny rotter before she came into my life. Now I'm just a
chunky, garlic breathed bum who suffers from SAD( seasonally adjusted
diameter).Thank God for boat building or else I would explode!!
Any place that requires more then my customary 2 1/2 minute stroll
for beer,is Boonyville for me. Electricity? Mais oui,mon ami, we make
a lot of that here too..:-)
Just to make the messabout weekend that much more enjoyable for
Pesky,I've reserved the Captains suite for two nights on board the
Alexander Keith....hey! wait a minute, isn't that the name of a
beer?....can't recall Alexanders last name, but I know you know the
boat I'm talking about.

Hey, knock away with the brews, I'm in if I can stay close to the site. :)

We'll bring the habanera powder to "kick it up" a notch!

Great news Peter,

I wonder what Canadian Legal Stew Pesky will produce for the potluck,
certainly not Humble Pie, or Roasted Briefs! As long as she does the
cooking it'll be OK, you just stick to what you do best ..... buying
the beer. Or better yet, bring some of that rara brewis "Bras'dor"
with it's increased alcholoic percentage we should be able to knock
Chuck and Jeff on their keisters!

Your site isn't all that "boonie-ish", it has freighters sailing past
in the Seaway, a "depanneur avec bierre froid" only a kilometer away
and a nice Legion on the indain reservation under the bridge. Heck,
it even has electricity. Good luck on Windemere's flip party, let me
know if you need my support (swiss army knife with corkscrew AND
churchkey).

Bruce,
Late last night, when I was finally able to get on the computer
after my Pesky Crew did her stuff, I meandered over to your site
anouncing the up-coming messabout. Very well done and nicely
presented!
However, the cat is out of the bag now! I had hoped to
perhaps "surprise" my Pesky Crew by offering her a nice weekend in
Kingston.I say surprise because I was hoping to keep tabs on her busy
schedule and if that weekend looked good, then off we go!!
Well, she happened to spot me checking out your site, came over
for a peek and asked what I was looking at. I told her and she went
through the roof!!! She cannot believe I was keeping it secret that
there was a messabout. She also cannot wait to go!! As far as she is
concerned, hell will have to freeze over before she doesn't go.
So, instead of a nice relaxing read before bed time, I was
treated to an endless stream of excited questions about which boats
will be there, when will WINDERMERE be launched, can we take her to the
next messabout,a whole slew of possible recipes to prepare for the
messabout, questions about the weather, when are we going boating
etc, etc, etc, all the way to about 02:00Hrs this morning! And she
cannot wait to see Van Pelts CHAMPLAIN.......a baby WINDERMERE!
Bruce,I need my beauty sleep on my days off, not some excited
puppy keeping me up late at night :-)
But I must thank you for perking her up and getting her mind off
the tedious machinations of the Canadian legal system, such as it
is.....Ha!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, dog tired but ready for another day at my all-out-doors-
all-the-time boat shop, along the banks of the St.Lawrence
Seaway........
