Well uh----uhm----ah-----mmmm, Micro wasn't exactly what I was thinking of
when I wrote that.

I was thinking more of buxom, balanced curves exquisitely blended so that
from any angle your eye is drawn in to the beautifully rendered whole, that
looks different but still lovely no matter what your point of view. If it
was audible it would say boooaaat in a low luscious alto warble.

Well said HJ!
And I'm glad you did cause now I can vote for the MICRO. I think
she is just the cutest little thing around. So cute, you just want to
eat her with a spoon!!!! And as if that wasn't all a fella needed,
she is self-righting,easy to sail, trailerable, requires but 15 sheets
of plywood, has comfy beds to sleep in.....can be built at home!!!

I guess, that the real
poll will have to boil down
to the *most popular* design.

Maybe the poll should be phrased:
===
What are your favorite Bolger design(s)?
===

Yahoo Group polls allow up to 25 items.

The poll can also allow multiple votes,
so you could choose more than one as
your 'favorite'.

Here is my proposed list of 29
Please suggest four to remove,
and the obvious omissions.

Advanced Sharpie AS-29
Bantom
Birdwatcher
Black Skimmer
Champlain
Chebacco
Dakota
Dovekie
Fast Motor Sailer
Folding Schooner
Glouschester Gull Dory
Gypsy
Jessie Cooper
Kotick
Light Schooner
Martha Jane
Micro
Nymph
Resolution
Spur II
Superbrick
Sweet Pea
Tahiti
Teal
Topaz
Tortoise
Windermeer
Wyoming
The last design I looked at.

And I'm glad you did cause now I can vote for the MICRO. I think
she is just the cutest little thing around. So cute, you just want to
eat her with a spoon!!!! And as if that wasn't all a fella needed,
she is self-righting,easy to sail, trailerable, requires but 15 sheets

hmmm, I am of just the opposite opinion - PB&F newer designs are ugly, harder to build and lack the ingeniuity that Phil is famous for.

Hands down I believe the Micro is his best.

But that is only my opinion.

Worth mentioning: PB&F's newest,
"The Yonder", has what I see as
a new, and exciting, construction
sequence where you only have one flip
of only the box keel. Next, you place
the bulkheads, transom, forward
tabernacle... and *then* you place
the deck and upper deck sides.

This brings the whole assembly into
torsional stiffness, which you rock
back and forth as you build up the
sides using strip planking.

After the hull is complete, only then
do you add the ballast, 2" steel armor
on the box keel.

This inovative and well considered
construction sequence, (well suited
for the backyard builder) I am wild
guessing, came from a 'brain storming'
session between PCB and SA???

My bias revealed, I think that the 'later'
PB&F designs are even better than the
'earlier' PCB designs. [except maybe a
few of the really elegant early simple
designs, like Tortoise, Teal, G.Gull Dory,
Micro and hmmm?]

Proposed group poll:
What is Bolger's *best* design?

Perhaps we could agree on a short
list of six candidates, and then
vote in a poll?

My criteria include;

Safety.
Innovation.
Function for purpose.
An elegance from simplicity.

With a group as large and as opinionated as this one and with over 700
designs to choose from, you could be unleashing an avalanche here.

You left out one very important criteria, and that is looks. Mr. Bolger is
a great artist. He often subverts his artistic talents to fit practical
solutions, for use, ease of construction, expense or other design criteria.
People come to him now to design boats with specific uses in mind, knowing
that he will look at function and practicality first. His recent designs
don’t show his artist abilities because customers don’t come to him looking
for that. Nobody comes to Bolger and friends saying “design me a 25 footer
that will make people cry when they look at it”, though he has the talent
too. He would probably resist such a commission, he has said that you can’t
produce works of art on demand. He can produce well thought out and very
original solutions to customers needs.

Enough of this deviation, we own boats for esthetic as well as practical
reasons, and Bolger has designed some drop dead gorgeous boats. Beauty
should be included in any pole.

Well, you're close, Richard. But, of course, it's the Chebacco with
the PT live aboard mods. ;)
