[bolger] Re: Foam and watertight bulkheads?

I don't see why you need foam if you think you can get it well sealed. If
fact, sealing deck plates and foam seem at cross purposes (unless you want
to admire your foam from time to time!). I put all my junk in there.

Gregg,
If we make watertight bulkheads with deck plates as you suggest
should we pile on the foam as well. In the Folding Schooner Plans the
midship bulkhead forward of the forward hull transom has a big cutout
but the under deck between this frame and the transom has two big foam
blocks. We are going to put in a watertight hatch as per you advice and
channels for the limber holes to make an airtight copartment. Think we
should put some foam in there as well? Likewise the forepeak is filled
with foam on the plans. If we make it watertight can we use it for
storage or should we have some foam in it as well? The Folding Schooner
doesn't have the side decks with foam under as on the Light Schooner.
The original plans has foam under the midship decks and in the forepeak
but nothing wateright.

Thanks,
Leander
