Thanks, Peter--by THE Windermere I meant to ask if you
had commissioned the design and picked the name, but
as you say it makes sense as part of the "lake"
series. In my Webster's second new international
dictionary, "winder" is Scots-English for "wonder";
"mere" is Anglo-Saxon for "lake" or "sea", also
Anglo-Saxon for "glorious, beautiful". So, wonder
lake or wonderfully beautiful--either appropriate
given the line drawings. Hope the turning goes
smoothly--I'll plan on a Hudson rendezvous in summer
of '05. Sam

Hi Again Sam,
Not sure what you mean by THE Windermere but yes, this is a
design called Windermere. It was not designed for me,as such, but our
Hero did finish up a design that was unfinished as a result of my
originally wanting to build a Champlain. He offered to finish up the
plans,if I would build it............
He finished the plans and I'm building it.Have you had a peek
over on Bolger2,files,WINDERMERE construction photos. They are just
the results of 8 odd weekends worth of work begun last July. I hope
to have some up-dated pictures really soon.......like posted in a
few weeks.
Do not know what the name means but it comes from the British
lake of the same name......to keep in the spirit of the"lakes"
series like CHAMPLAIN........

Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan

Sam,
The Hudson river is a future cruising scenario but not next year!
My building site(outdoors), my wonderful climate( 4 to 5 months
of"epoxy" weather) and the fact that I work alone all conspire to
make things slow going( to some). Poverty also enters into the
formula,that is,were I filthy stinking rich,I'd have a whole crew of
pro's putting her together in a few months time :-)

Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan
Peter, it just occurs to me that you may be building
THE Windermere. Was the boat designed for you? What
does the name mean? Wind Lake? German? Dutch?

Man, is it great to hear about a Windermere getting
built. I would love to see that husky thing next to
my Topaz. Sounds like you'll be ready for a Hudson
River cruise by next summer--maybe it could happen.
Have you named her yet?

Hi Thirsty,
Whether Pesky will be there is an unknown. So many things keep
popping up at the last minute at the law firm. She
has, however, expressed an interest in being there( she has to make
sure I eat my lunch, drink enough water(ha!) and other sorts of
foreman tasks). Not only does she pride herself in being a"planner"
but she also likes to organize things and boss folk around.Maybe she
is an alpha female?
At anyrate, if she comes,I'll only know at the last minute and
how long she will stay depends alot on the wind direction. That is,if
it is from the Northwest, she won't stay since this carries some of
the ordors from the Maple Leaf Meats rendering plant wafting along
the banks of the Seaway.I tried once last summer to get her to stay
by suggesting she put a pair of those expanding foam ear plugs in her
nostrils.Believe it or not,she actually tried this but they began to
hurt too much as they expanded.(she is such a trooper sometimes :-) )
I do know that they have a ton of work to clear out at the firm
before the summer court break so maybe it won't happen.....but she
has surprised me in the past so who knows?!
At least the long range forcast is good.....no fun drinking
beer in the rain :-(

Sincerely,

Peter Lenihan, eager for a rightsided bottom but checking his behind
for invaders, along the shores of the St.Lawrence.........

After that, I'm not sure I'm coming to the righting party. Can't say
that I want to see your bottom righted, or any other way!

BTW, Will Pesky Crew be there?

Bruce (thirsty) Hector
Bolgerados,
Just finished finally getting the centerboard and centerboard
box all prepped for final assembly once the bottom is righted.
The day was then spent raising the bottom 5" off the building
jig. This will allow me to slide a couple of 4X4 posts underneath the
bottom.I plan on then attaching two BIG hinges at the halfway point
along the posts which will then serve to ease the pivoting of the
bottom to a vertical position.Afterward,it is planed that a number of
block and tackles, secured on the opposite side of the jig, will
control its descent to the righted position.A goodly number of
willing hands will ensure that glitches or adjustments can be made
relatively accident free!
Just dropped off a nice roll of film which means that at my
snails pace,I should have some pictures posted withing a few weeks
illustrating some of the progress to date.A new roll is all set to go
for the "flipping session" this Saturday and the weather forcast
looks mighty promising!!

Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, who can't wait to see what this bottom will finally
look like once righted, from along the shores of the St.Lawrence
Seaway........
