Re: Confirmation about windemere
Bonjour Le Chose,
Indeed, as you cross over the Mercier Bridge you stay in the
left lane and exit the bridge toward the 132 est(east). You will
notice Bruce that the road, once off the bridge, has new asphalt!!
Unlike that mine field you navigated last time.Your truck is going
to ride like a new Caddy through the Reservation until you cross the
train tracks. It is at the second set of lights, after the train
tracks, that you turn left. This is 1st Ave and you will drive past
the only stop sign until you see boats on land,to your right, just
after the rusty pipe company.......the name of the place, should you
become disoriented is Kenmont Marine.
Peter Lenihan, with 4 hours to go in the shift before the fun
begins!

But of course mes amis!
Just needed to refresh my memory, it's left at the end of the Mercier
Bridge and another left at the first light, no?
If not, please post the directions from the bridge again.

My mistake, just looked at the manual and didn't follow the line right.
3800 Lbs for the 3.0L but mine has the 4.0L and rated at 5600 lbs.
I only need about 2000 lbs capability but nice to have anyway.

Last week I got a 03 Ranger 4X4. I got the stripped down version so I don't
feel guilty tracking in sand an mud from the beach and ramps. Price was
about 7K less than the normal top end but still got important things like
Auto and AC.
Darn thing is rated at 3800 lbs towing and 227 HP.
Still, new vehicles are costing more now days than any boat I've owned. Of
course the Wyoming is not done yet.

Isn't that a sad statement - a pickup truck being too expensive - <sigh> it's what comes from trying to make a truck a passenger vehicle.

I have been studying the requirements to tow the houseboat. The
weight is about 1 ton plus 700lbs for the trailer. I considered a
pick-up which would be adequate but the cost is prohibitive. A larger
car is my choice because I could also tow a utility trailer if
required. I have no experience with larger cars and would like some
input from the group on the best choice capable of towing 300 pounds.
I have heard that the buick Roadmaster could tow 5000 lbs. I might
put electric beakes on the trailer. I suppose there is some legal
requirements. thanks Paul McLellan.

PB&F wrote a couple good articles
about towing boats with a small
car [based on their personal experience].
In summary: Handling the boat on the
steep slippery ramp is often the 'weak link'.
They park their small import car at
the top of the ramp and chock the wheels.
Their boat trailer has an 'industrial
strength' roller wheel installed at
the tongue. From a moderately sized
electric winch, mounted on a board which
is chained to the car's front bumper,
they winch the boat up and down the
ramp [with the small car parked
safely on the flat at the top of the ramp.]
The winch is powered by a spare 12V car
battery which sits loose on the ground
next to the winch mounted on the 2x10 board.

Buy a good used pick-up. Three years ago I bought my
1964 GMC 3/4 ton for $400.00. I have towed amd hauled
many heavy things with it. Sometimes on a steep
boatramp you need that Grannie low to pull a heavy
boat out. Look around there are good deals out there
in these hard times.

Paul,
I regularly tow 3500lb with a 2WD Ford Explorer. This
vechicle does very well with that weight and I never
(knock on wood) have problems going up a slippery
ramp. This same ramp causes many a 2wd pickup
to slip and slide.
If a suv is not an option then another car to consider
would be a Ford Crown Vic, the older ones were rated
to tow more the 3000.
I regulary see a guy around here using an old Dodge
Diplomat to tow a failry large (around 22 or 23 ft)
Grady White. i would imagine that to be around 5000
lbs.

Isn't that a sad statement - a pickup truck being too expensive - <sigh> it's what comes from trying to make a truck a passenger vehicle.

Subject: [bolger] Houseboat #481 Towing
I have been studying the requirements to tow the houseboat. The
weight is about 1 ton plus 700lbs for the trailer. I considered a
pick-up which would be adequate but the cost is prohibitive. A larger
car is my choice because I could also tow a utility trailer if
required. I have no experience with larger cars and would like some
input from the group on the best choice capable of towing 300 pounds.
I have heard that the buick Roadmaster could tow 5000 lbs. I might
put electric beakes on the trailer. I suppose there is some legal
requirements. thanks Paul McLellan.

weight is about 1 ton plus 700lbs for the trailer. I considered a

I have heard that the buick Roadmaster could tow 5000 lbs. I might
put electric beakes on the trailer. I suppose there is some legal
requirements. thanks Paul McLellan.
