Aluminized roofing paint for mobile homes works wonders for lowering air conditioning costs here in Georgia. They used to paint the roof of the governor's mansion with it till hurricane Andrew blew the thing off its wheels and into the Chatahoochee sewage canal.;)
It's available at Home Depot for about $25/gal.

It's available at Home Depot for about $25/gal.

Just a thought...West Systems offers an aluminum powder (420) as an epoxy additive for UV reduction. Anyone know if the other epoxy sources have something similar?
Living and boating in hot & muggy coastal Georgia, I'm contemplating a coat of epoxy with this stuff in it before painting. Any thoughts?
Thanks...James
.
Is there a paint with a high aluminum content?

Here in Australia we have a heat reflective roof paint called Armawall , it
comes in 15 litre tins and costs about $170 AUD , it is great stuff and cuts
down the heat by a truly amazing amount , you must have some thing similar
in the US , it is usually white but can be tinted but only in light colours

I bought a quart can of oil paint, by mistake,

It came out a bright, shiny, highly

contained any actual aluminum, but it
was every bit as reflective as aluminum foil.

Years ago I was involved with homebuilding aircraft. Fabric covered
airplanes are routinely
painted with finely ground aluminum mixed in clear dope before painting. I
know that the
aluminum protects the fabric from sun damage. I dont know that it stops
heat or if it is
to stop other radiation from damaging the fabric. You can buy it from
Aircraft Spruce and
Manufacturing Co.

Been looking into ways to reduce solar heat gain through the cabin roof
and deck. I've been told that long wave radiation is what penetrates,
and that a layer, even a thin layer, of aluminum can block much of this.
Is there a paint with a high aluminum content? Anyone with experience in
this think that a layer of paint with high aluminum content applied just
below the finish paint would effectively reflect this radiation?
