Not the point. Gregg's comment applies. Think about bandwidth limits.
From memory, the biggest, most complicated and most detailed of the
umpteen photos onhttp://www.ace.net.au/schooneris only about 30K, and
even that's too big....

There's now lots of good compression software.

I know that most folks on the web are on Gregg and Tim's side, but I
disagree. Nothing annoys me more than an interesting looking photo that is
too grainy to make out any details. I'd prefer the 200k files if the photos
are interesting, and don't bother if they are not. Now, a thumbnail to help
the viewer decide whether to download the big files is a definite courtesy.
(I have a 28.8K modem, BTW.)

Oh yeah, I forgot, the "old bandwidth limits" -- let me take care of
that right away. :-(

Please explain.

Please don't broadcast them to the group as an attachment.

Get a copy of ThumbsPlus from shareware.com and rescale them to a
reasonable size and JPG compression ratio. (200 KB each sounds huge for a
snapshot.)

How about we put them in the vault for a month. This thing has been going
since, what July 1999 and we haven't filled the vault yet.

A friend just scanned three photographs that I think would be interesting
to the group. They pictures of leeboard boats that my father took in the
Netherlands. (He took the pictures, not the boats.)

Together, they total about 600kb. I can just post them as attachments, put
them in the vault, or find another home somewhere on the web. I don't
really want to put them in the vault because space there is limited
(although I could take them down before space became an issue), and perhaps
a little rude to modem users to just put them in as attachments. Any ideas
or preferences from out there?
