Re: [bolger] Re: conversion of Micro to power
My wife got turned off sailing after watching several of the times I've been
in small sailing boats , the idea of ending up in the water with a bump on
her head just didn't appeal to her
I've just been looking in the photo section and have to say that the Micro
Navigator concept really interests me , is there any more information on it
?

I visited with Stan about the time he had made this decision. I
purchased his ballast casting and spars in preparation for building
my own Micro. (Built another boat instead, now Bruce Hector has this
stuff).
One of his ideas was to use an old Mercedes Diesel from a reefer unit
to turn a paddle wheel.
Not long after that, Stan became enamored of home-made submarines and
went off full tilt in that direction. Later he seemed to disappear
completely. His health was not very good when I met him, although his
enthusiasm was very high. I tried to contact him awhile back only to
find his address and website out of service. I hope he's still out
there somewhere, dreaming and scheming. But I fear the worst...

Now this idea is intriguing , turning a sail boat design into a motor
cruiser , what designs would this work for that have adequate head room for
a large individual ?, just enough so that he could stand up in places and
not be bent double the rest of the time but still have a shallow enough
draught to be able to get into some of the more interesting places
Motors would work better for me as I've said in another post but there is
also the fact that my wife isn't all that keen on the idea of sail , will
just tolerate motors but not sail ,

I remember Stan's posts, but have never seen anything else on the
net. He was turning to power because of his health issues.
Micro would make quite a good pottering about power boat in my
opinion, and would would need no more than 5-7.5hp. With a Navigator
cabin, even better.
But I would talk to Bolger about a filleted bow, easily added,

Fine in flat water.

I was looking through the posts and read where someone says Stan Muller
converted a Micro to power?? Just wondering if anyone had any info
on his coverted Micro on the Net anywhere. I am thinking of doing
the same thing. My main question is, if I build a Micro to only be
used as a power boat (hope no one hates me for this!!...maybe I
would use the mizzen), how much less keel ballast would be needed in
order to keep her self-righting abilities??? Thanks in advance.
