Close Jim,

I copied my Diablo's transom, she ended up with a 14" rise and about
a 15 degree rake. The motor board is identical too, a slab of 2 by 8
epoxied to the 1/2 inch transom and a hefty 1" plywood transom knee.
Diablo, with her light 1/4" sides is rated by Phil for 25 HP, so I
think your motor would be perfect.

See ya' soon for some serious houseboating and TIMSing.

| Hi Gavin,
|
| I'm making 3 units, the towboat (actually a pusher, but they're
| traditionally called towboat), an 8 foot auxilliary power unit (oars)
| and an 11' 6" sharpie bow unit. So my total is 31 feet, on a 4 foot

| speed be on 2 inches of draft? Wheeeeee!
|
| At this great towboat site you can see how they lash them together in
| the big leagues. Different deck height, drafts, cargoes and barge
| types. They don't care, the tie em in a raft and SHOVE! So I thought
| I'd give it a try to. Great photos,
|http://home.att.net/~river.photos/
|
| They'll be joined solely by lashing. Althought I may do some trials
| with the sections bolted together into a stiff single unit for fun.
|
| We'll be assembling as many as possible, aiming for a hundred footer!
| This will happen at the Kingston Amateur Boating Messabout, September
| 5, 6, and 7, 2003.
|
| "Timmy" "The Littlest Towboat" was launched today at 8:00 pm EST on
| the Cataraqui River, and a first lash up was made by joining her
| to "Use No Hooks", the oar powered unit. I didn't have a motor, so
| no performance figures yet. I'll try to beg, borrow or steal a 9.9 Hi
| Thrust asap and give her a spin.
|
| Launch and trial lash up photos will be posted tomorrw from work.

Wow! That house looks a bit wild on top of that 4ft beam!

Other than that, I think you've got something that will be huge fun. How many modules do you aim for, in the end? And how do you intend to attach them please?

TIMS The Infinite Modular Sharpie Towboat will be launched toady,
Canada Day, at 7:30 pm EST.

Photos of her ready to be launched are in the photo section of the
boat swap site at
http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/freeboatexchange/lst
in a sub folder of the TIMS album. Enjoy!

The hull is all 1/2" inch good one side spruce ply, 2 by 2 chine logs
and gunwales, 2 by 4 rubrails and keel, and many tubes of PL Premium,
much of which is seemingly permanently bonded to my hands and arms.

The cabin top, which lifts off, is 1 by 2 frameing, 1/8" mahogany
door skins, and will be fibreglassed with 6 oz. and epoxy to make a
lightweight, removable camper top.

The sharpie bow unit is ready to have the bottom glued on, but now
that I've got the towboat in the truck, I'm goning to stop the "Mad
Weekend of Maniacal Boatbuilding", and take a well deserved break.

I'm going to drive the world's one and only TIMS Towboat around
Kingston for a feew hours as a Canada Day salute to nutty
boatbuilders everywhere (Elaine, bless her heart, brought me more
food and beer, and slapped two coats of white Tremclad on the hull,
probably thinks that I'm the record holder in that department, but
she hasn't met Peter Lenihan yet!). LOL!

I forgot to buy champagne for the launch, and the liqour stores are
all closed for the hoiliday. But TIMS is very much a workingman's
boat, so I'll smash a bottle of working man's beer on one of her
sturdy cleats for the christening.

I will christen her "Timmy the Towboat" and see her float this
evening, before we go out on our houseboat to watch the fireworks
from the water.

Happy Canada Day everyone.
