August 2 Messabout, Maryland
Although it's not called a Messabout, there is one on August 2 in
Rock Hall Maryland. Rock Hall's on the Eastern Shore about 1 hour
from Annapolis, 2 hours from DC.
I'd love to see some other sailing canoes present. I think I will try
to create a Sam Manning "Sticks & String rig" using an old Optimist
sail and take it along.
Please note that you won't be chased away if you show up with your
Bolger Brick, Jinni, etc., etc. <chuckle>. If you can paddle or row
it, bring it down!

All Paddle Day at Rock Hall Yacht Club
9 AM - 3 PM
Come by for a casual day of canoeing, kayaking, and rowing along
beautiful Langford Bay and the Chester River. Bring your boat!
Paddle up Langford Creek to Cacaway Island. Make a round trip to
Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge and back.
Hot dogs and soft drinks will be sold cheaply, or bring your own
picnic lunch. Best of all, it's free! Families, especially, invited!
Events include:
Second Annual Langford Bay Paddling Race
- Novice and Expert Classes
- Sign-up begins 9 AM. No registration fee.
- Race time 10:30 AM.
- Prizes in both classes.
In-water boat demos from:
- Chester River Kayak Adventures
- Chesapeake Rowing
- Chesapeake Light Craft
How to get there:
- Drive via Rte 213 to Chestertown and Rte 20 west to Rock Hall.
- As you pass the sign for Edesville, follow the "RHYC" signs.
