Lamination woes (was Premium Butt Joint Failures)

Don't know about the Premium Butt Joints, but I've had my share of lamination problems this past week as well. To start I glued up the Chebacco masts using some what i thought was "good deal" lumberyard Canadian Spruce. Made a solid mizzen and a box main mast. After turning down to a fair semblance of what I thought they should be, I set them aside and went to wok on the rest of the spars. Next morning low and behold I notice the solid mast has begun to split although it appears the joint held, and the adjoining wood opened, and the main mast opened one of the seams I had epoxied. Needless to say I am some depressed. Gonna try to salvage them both at least for the launching later this month, but they're destined to be scrap heap fodder before long.
