David,
You're a genius, and I though I are one!
That's it! Uereka! Halejula! Shazamm!
Built that way, your module, and your earstwhile followers, will only
differ 1/2 inch (just a teensy 1/4" (5mm) on each side), I mean,
who'll notice a 1/4" on a bobbing, twisting, shifting, heaving, 60
feet long TIMS?
Other than everyone, since we've (read YOU'VE) gone and pointed our
my design inadequacies to all now, That is!

Geeeez Peter,
Did ya' HAVE ta' ask that one?
Without thinking, I kinda' built one on the outside, and one butted.
Total difference is 1/2" each side, and I was surely hoping no eagle
eyed boat builder would notice. What with the bobbing up and down of
the sections being lashed, the stretch of the lines, the roiling
wake, I really hoped this wouldn't come up.
I guess I'm saying, you silver tonged devil, that it doesn't really
matter (either way is close enuf for the girls I go with!, I don't
know about you, I'll have to ask Pesky!) I mean, what's a 1/2 inch
(just a few measly milimeters) among friends?
If ya' want to be pernickity, make the overall width 48", by trimming
1 inch off'n the bottom and build the sucker on that, to finish 48"
wide, not counting those husky rub rails, of course.
All in all, it'll end up close enough for government work, our, or
theirs!

Peter, obviously the only fair answer is to do one side sitting and one side
lapping. If you've got them on the wrong side, remember that each module is
reversible (unless Cap'n Bruce is going in reverse, in which case a mad
scramble will ensue, if not already in progress). These things are really
quite simple when you reason it through.
