long time no post but help needed
hello everybody, so the the folding schooner contingent of the
gruoup has been so quiet lately. we havent sailed oor rowed or
paddled for months.
Work, or the lack of it has kept us on our toes and
boating,Bolgeresqe or otherwise has been impossible.I have been
fortunate to have the time to build a forge and start making a few
tools to assist in the construction of the next boat..
Ive managed a few lovely knives for carving and a nice hollowing
adze. last sunday I hammered out my first axe copying a technique I
read about in a book on medieval tools. as a side project one of the
kids came home from school with a drawing of a schooner and anounced
that she needed help to build it, it had to float and had to be
handed in next monday. being a dad who rises to such challenges i
pulled a log from the wood pile split it. got out the axe and started
carving. It took 2 days to make ,rig and test sail, looks superb, but
only won second prizeas the winner had no help from dad.
this brings me to the piont of the post.
Now I've got the hang of the hollowing adze, I'd like tocarve a
large model. The design I had in mind was something like a Thames
sailing barge, as I love to work with that kind of sailplan.
Does anybody have any plans saved from books etc.
I tried to get a copy of "spritsail barges of the thames and medway"
by Edgar J March which would certainly have the kind of plans i need,
but it was not to be had at any cost.
I'd like to build a stupidly large model as usual, say 4-5 feet with
a bit of weight in it to control the duck pond with.
cheers all paul.
ps , congrats on all the launchins, records, turnings and little
progressesthat seem to happen like an unstoppable force of nature.
