Re: Gypsy Questions-Payson Book.
If you're interested in building Gypsy get Harold "Dynamite" Payson's Book "Build the New 'Instant' Boats" available from Payson at his website www.instantboats.com , Wooden Boat Magazine also stocks it,so see their site www.woodenboat.com .
Payson describes how to build a number of Bolger designed boats in this book starting off with "Gypsy",he gives pretty good instructions and also explains the uses/limitations of the various craft discussed. All the plans for the boats are in the book, but you can buy the larger (Easier to read and take measurements from) from Payson.
No I don't know Payson, and I'm certainly getting no commission for what seems like an advertisement, but just letting you know that I would have found the book very helpful when building my Diablo Outboard Utility Skiff of which plans and instructions are also featured in the book.I also plan to build a "Gypsy" in the next few months to hone up my boatbuilding skills in order to tackle a larger and more advanced (More difficult) design that Bolger is currently designing for me.
I intend to use my "Gypsy" for occassional sailng(We get very strong winds here in Tasmania during Summer, especially the afternoons!) but mainly for rowing, as I believe its a really enjoyable way to exercise!
