1) Store the oars in the oarlocks, with the blades tied down to the mast
partner. This way, they are entirely out of the water and out of the way
of the interior.

2) Kick-up rudder and kick-up leebaord. The place to go for this info is
Jim Michalak--either his new book, or in the archives of his website
(http://www.apci.net/~michalak).

Ouch!! Wood is so much more forgiving than metal. I would NOT use metal.
Shaping the wood is cheap and easy. I made it first according to plans,
which broke within the first season (I don't admire the plans on this
minor detail).

I replaced it with a piece of tapererd closet pole, which I strongly
prefer (and it took less than an hour to make).
