Several bottle of very exotic and very tasty brew made the trip down

We haven't drunk as well since.

Hi Sakari,
Sorry I couldn't remember your name correctly.
How about a trade? I'll swap you two Bolger Micros for your Cabin
Clam Skiff. One, the gold plater, needs interior finishing, and
instalation of masts, rudder, keel. The other, needs repairs for
upper deck rot, (already begun) and a mast.
We each pay our own freight.

a Honda 50, it's a Yamaha 40.
The current situation of the boat is that I'm seriously considering
scrapping it. The main reason is that I also built a small sailboat
(Michalak) last year, and found sailing much more fun than motoring.
There are other reasons. First, the cabin plans are rather sketchy.
Perhaps an experienced builder or boater would have a clear idea
of what to put in; I haven't.
Second, I made the mistake of building the small stern deck before
even looking at the engine. It was a nasty surprise when I found
the engine's lower bolts had to be put _below_ the deck. So I had
to make holes in the deck, too, in addition to the transom, in
order to be able to fasten the bolts. Those holes didn't turn out
very well; they leaked (rainwater) all summer. (I was in a launching
frenzy when I made them.)
In theory, this was not serious, as there are limber holes. However,
the engine's weight makes the boat just a bit stern-heavy, so any
water in the boat eventually ends up under the stern deck. And
_stays_ there. Inspection hatches would be needed, but the plans
don't show any. Again, perhaps a more experienced builder would
have put in such hatches as a matter of course.
Third (again, the stern deck), when I had a mechanic service the
engine, I first drove the boat onto his trailer, which he pulled
up on dry land. After the operation, he reversed down the slope
with me in the boat when... Well, for some reason he had, at one
point or another, released the boat from the winch, and the boat
just slid off the trailer and fell, stern first, on concrete.
Luckily, I had tilted the engine up, and it was not damaged.
But the shock load on the transom was pretty high, and a hairline
crack opened where the deck meets the transom.
So, in order to use the boat (I didn't laumch it this year) I would
have to make major repairs at the stern. But can I be bothered,
when driving the boat around is just as interesting as driving
a car? I just want to go sailing.
