Re: Thermal Insulation
Thanks for the info. Reflectix is very interesting stuff...

Bolger and friends have been recommending a composite foam cored wood
outer layer construction lately. I do know that a little foam in the
over head makes an incredible difference in heat retention.
The most important item is the stove, make sure it is vented!!!. Carbon
monoxide deaths happen way too often in boats. Propane and other open
flame stoves are very uncomfortable in spring and fall, your windows
will just rain. The are a couple of new diesel cooking stoves that are
vented and have a fan for pulling heat off the top for interior heat.
They require power, but I have thought that they are a good small boat
solution for the Pacific NW.
If you can pack the weight, nothing beats the old Dickerson or similar
stove from other manufacturers for cooking and heat.

Nope, Reflectrix is a double layer of bubble wrap with aluminum coatings. We
found it at Home Despot. We used it in areas where there wasn't a full 3/4"
for foam.

We use 3/4" pink foam insulation in the hull sides and three layers of
Reflectrix in the overhead. In Tennessee, the effect was very noticeable.

Does anyone have any ideas or experiences regarding effective
cabin thermal insulation materials and methods for three
season use in a Great Lakes climate? Foam sandwich?
Reflective foil?
Thanks.
