getting to messabout

Anyone have recent experience travelling into and out of Canada from US
with weird plywood thingy (obviously not REALLY a boat) and large wooden
lance (can't be a mast) on top of car? (Well, ok, it depends on which
boat I pick) Driver's license sufficient? Other docs required? Denounce
GW on way in and praise on way out? Bring Molson in and Coors (ugh!)
out? Shave beard? Learn to hum national anthems subliminally? Maple
leaves and then oil stained eagle feathers or caribou antlers on package
shelf? Will they let me back in if I have my homemade Greenland paddle
with me? Last time s.o. was in Canada she was stranded there for days.

Still not sure it's advisable for me to attend, but considering it.
Would be fun if budget can handle.
Wife and I had passports, kids had birth certificates.

Coming back into the US with Bruce's not insignificant 10,000 lb 38' x 12'
boat wasn't even a problem. US Customs asked why I was in a Canadian boat
and quickly lost interest when I told them I planned to take it back to
Canada in a day or two. Bringing it back to Canada was even easier. We tied
up in Gananoque, called Canada Customs on the cell phone, answered a few
questions and that was it.

My biggest regret was not buying enough excellent but inexpensive wine down
Picton way. The US border folks never even asked if we had anything to
declare, they took a cursory look at my passport and waived us on through.
I'd have bough several cases if I'd known that was going to happen. Duty
free shopping at it's best!

Driving back and forth across the border isn't any problem either. Bring
your boat and don't worry about it.

Lincoln,
The problem is the other way around my friend......it is very
difficult to get into the USA if things aren't squeeky clean all
around AND you happen to not be a citizen of the USA ;-)
Judging by recent figures released from STATS CANADA,we are
letting in loads of folks and having a hell of a time returning those
who,for any number of reasons, are"refused" their stay in CANADA.
Bring some solid ID with you, keep any and all fire arms at home
and you'll be in like the breeze.
Getting back home should,of course, be a piece of cake.......:-)
Hope your budget can handle it and don't forget your buck is
worth something, really worth something, up here!

Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan

I cross the border quite often and I always bring my drivers license
and birth certificate and have never had a problem.Just dont bring any
firearms with you.

Mike
