Tahiti is designed for crossing oceans. Information is in Bolger2
under "Big Bolger Boats"

Ralph
Is there a single place to view all these designs and their specs? It would
really be convenient.

Don't forget Champlain, Windemere and the mighty Illinois.

Scans and article are in the Bolger2 group files section in the file

The only thing that stands between most of us and an Illinois is 450
sheets of plywood and a little time.

I think the 5' width is too limiting for the Idaho. Imagine living
in a long Ford Ranger pickup bed. It would be hard to get past a bed
or table without stowing it. In the Tennessee I've seen pictures of
a group down both sides of a table enjoying a picnic and
conversation. On the Idaho, one side of the table would have to be
against the wall. Even two chairs side by side facing forward would
almost block access to the rear.

I guess in a day boat with camp furniture all this would not matter
and the narrow boat would trailer great.

And if we're suggesting step hull power sharpies, the Microtrawler at
15'6" and its bigger brother the Retriever at , I think, 22 feet.

The big advantage is that the Tennessee will perform with a 10-15 Hp motor. It glides along with hardly any wake at any speed up to about 15 or 16 mph. If you put a bigger motor on her, she would just squat and not really go much faster even though you are burning a lot more gas. A planing boat like Idaho has a higher top speed, but needs a bigger motor to do it, and does not do nearly as well below about 10 or 12 mph. It will wallow and produce a big wake at slow speeds. With motor boats, it's fish or fowl, but there is not much compromise.

Tennessees bing built? Is the rockered bottom a big advantage?

Wyoming is 51'6" X 8'3". The aft cabin version draws 7 inches while the
original design is at 6 inches draft. Displacement is up to 10,000 lbs. on
the origianl, 11,500 on the aft cabin. The aft cabin is the design Mr.
Bolger created for the Wyoming in full crusing trim.

The Minnesota looks a lot like some of the Australian versions of the Tennessee. Was one ever built?

What I

Sneakeasy 26' x 4' flat bottom
Tennessee 29'x 6' rockered bottom
Idaho 31' x 5' flat bottom
Wyoming 51' x 8' Sneakeasy x2

More Tennessee's ( and modified Tennessee's) have been built than
the others.

I can give you Dakota specs. 37.5ft X 8ft. X 11"(draft). The
window cruiser version I am building should end up, with
batteries, motor, full fuel, water tanks filled, anchor and chain,
cruising provisions, etc. at just under 7000 lbs.
I started installing the plexiglas windows today. Hope to post
updated pics soon. I have some older pics in the photos and
files sections.

Hey Guys,
I found a write up on the Tennessee in an old old Common Sense Boat
Designs pamphlet that I got from Bernie Wolfard so I know the length beam and
layout and Chuck told me it weighs about 1000 lbs. What I cannot get a handle
on are the others in that size range i.e. the Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho and maybe
others. Anyone know the specifics of them. Tom on Sandpiper
