Missionaries, my Dear! Don't you realize that missionaries are the divinely
provided food for destitute cannibals? Whenever they are on the brink of
starvation, Heaven in its infinite mercy send them a nice plump missionary.

Just receently i restored an very old axe head for a friend. It is a
head known around Kalgoorlie as a KELLY. The legends and myths about
these tools are pretty amazing, but they are one of the few axes that
could cut our local timbers. Every expert ,in every local Pub( 31 of
them in Kalgoorlie) young or old , who can or cant swing an axe will
tell you how these axes were made in Tasmania and shipped all over
the world.
When I cleaned this axe up and started to polish it these words
became visible.
" KELLY AXE &TOOL CO, ST CATHARINES,ONT.Made in Canada"
OOOOH I thinks to myself I could win me some good bets here!!!
the problem I'm having good friends is that I can't find any info at
all on the internet about the company or the axes. Could anybody a
bit closer find anything inyour local library, aven an adress for the
company if it still exists.
The big problem i had with my google searches was the existence of
one Dr Catharine Kelly ,world famous and extensively quoted resercher
on genetic AXES. she alone accounted for 100,000 hits!
A book that someonemay be able to findover there is
Axe Makers of North America, by Allan Klenman. 1990.
Ive already tried the tourism dept and the museum of Ontariobut I
think i may be on the bottom of there priority list, behind finding
the car keys before walking down all the stairs to the car park with
the electric Boom gatesto go home early.
cheers all , Paul
head known around Kalgoorlie as a KELLY.
