Re: [bolger] TOPAZ just doesn't look right flying
Brad used to post on this group pretty regularly
before he finished Topaz. FWIW, I don't think that's
his in your photos. Brad's boat was painted red and he
originally powered with a 70HP Honda. He later
reported that he regretted buying the 70 because the
boat would perform well with much less.
Topaz is a boat I really like, but I sure do wish it
had four berths (in two cabins preferably). If I had
one, I'd probably go with a 30 or 40HP motor, though.

".........but somehow TOPAZ just doesn't look right flying
along with its nose up in the air like some impertinent child with
its weewee dragging behind it.I can almost hear the sound of fine
chine crashing to the floor as the silverware rattles itself mad
inside the drawer while the guests lunge for their crystal wine
goblets to save them from joining that growing heap of china bits on
the floor. And don't forget the fair maiden screaming her guts out all
over the Persian rug while waiting for the WC to liberate another
terrified and very sick soul.
Any idea who the owner of this TOPAZ is?"
The owner and builder of this particular Topaz is a Mr Brad Raby according to the information Bolger sent me.Bolger agrees in his letter that "The power trim is for bow-high and she would be prettier with a flatter trim"In the MAIB article about "Topaz" which Bolger sent to me he states that Mr Raby is willing to build more Topazes if anyone is interested, but there's no contact address!.
AS to broken china plates etc and regurgitating WCs,use cheap plastic ones or some other durable material and DON'T use the WC at high speed!
I've heard a disasterous story of an unfortunate person who tried to use the WC for more than liquid business in a yacht while sailing into a steep sea,the WC of course was located right up in the bows, so when she crashed heavily down a wave ,you can imagine the results ,the poor fellow was covered in it,and as he didn't have a spare change of clothes he wasn't very popular with the other crew for the rest of the race!!!.
