RE: [bolger] Re: Fiji

Thanks for the reply, Peter, but even with the epoxy/glass wouldn’t that
still be an avenue for leaks over time? Doesn’t epoxy/glass check/crack
over time? I understand this would make the bottom bullet-proof, but is it
really necessary? I guess I just don’t understand the concept. --FrankB

As I recall, there is a layer of epoxy/glass in between. The method
for attaching the steel plate if fairly elaborate, including some
room for movement around the bolts to allow for different rates of
thermal expansion.

I'll definitely be there one way or another, and the Gull is
definitely both done and coming. The _Shrike_ (H&HS) will be coming,
too, but is now in danger of not being finished in time, and may show
up incomplete. :-(

I was just reading about Fiji at Bolger2. It says it’s 2” thick bottom is
sheathed with 1” steel. How is this steel attached? Isn’t there some
danger of water getting between the steel and wood bottom and causing rot?

Seehttp://www.brucesboats.comfor the newest update on the Kingston
Messabout, September 5, 6 and 7, 2003. New boats, new attendees, new
progress on TIMS.

Rumours, just rumours, of a very special guest or two.......

Phil and Suzanne replied with the tantalyizing phrase "we just can't
get to enough of these" to my first fax to them. Today I printed off
the webpages in glorious colour about the Messabout and snail mailed
them in a written invite. Slapped a small fortune in Canadian stamps
on the whole schmozzle and chucked in the Royal Mail Box.

For non boat nuts, Elaine is confirming that the Gananoque Boat lines
will still be running their beautiful 2 and 4 hours cruises in the
1000 Islands. They leave from a dock 20 miutes from the Messabout
site. She's also checking on which museums are still open and if the
Kingston Tout Trolley and Haunted Walk are still on.

Hope to meet many of you there and greet some old Bolgeristeros again.
