[bolger] Schorpioen, Sneak-,Alert,jibs,flat boats

Dept. Misc. Ramblings:
- Ed, SCHORPIOEN continues to suffer the Rodney Dangerfield syndrome...
That variable geometry float control alone is worth the price of
admission - flat bottom for all out planing speed, or smooth vee-action
for choppy waters and quiet nights afloat. Or the 'in-flight'
fore-and-aft shifting of the leeward float for minimum tripping risk.
How are you coming along on her construction? 'Private channel'
response likely better idea... Let's take comfort in the 'fact' that
even for hard-core multi-hullers she's a bit too far ahead!

- Gould's SNEAKEASY looked sharp in that video...

- We visited ALERT yesterday and she looks good after 20 years of
shallowand slender cruising duty. Her CHINESE GAFF continues to
evolve, dropping weight up where it hurts most. Jim Melcher build her
mast designed, but contracted out the gaff which is 20lbs over weight...
We've drawn updated unballasted leeboards for her.

- Once you 'third-wheel' your trailer to let it get wet alone, rather
than dipping the rear of the car/truck, the boat can be floated on via
guides and forward stop for reliable tongue-weight control - "drown the
trailer NOT the car". Any of these hulls requires the least
sophisticated trailers, with large square-footage supports carrying the
hull without hard-points in a matching cradle made of pressure-treated
lumber. Perhaps, the winch won't be necessary either - depending on
hull - as that wide bottom won't drag too well anyway, and needs no
dragging if floated in place over a submersed trailer!! See future
MAIB issues on food for thought.

- For rigging issues see 103 SAILING RIGs (US$25) directly from us at
66 Atlantic Street, Gloucester MA 01930-1627. Bill Jochems likes his
balanced club jib.
