She's correct, especially if you beef up the bottom like I did. With a
1/2" ply bottom the boat wanted to flip over constantly while trying to
get on a roof. It is very easy to launch from a trailer however. If
you set up most of the rig in the parking lot, it doesn't take long to
get underway once your in the water.

I'd go with 1/4 inch sides and a 3/8 inch bottom. Even with the 1/2
inch bottom on by Windsprint, there is some oil canning in a chop. Go
with the thicker gunnels and eliminate the center frame. I haven't
closed in the ends on the Windsprint since it provides room for the
cooler, anchor, life jackets...etc. On teal you will appreciate the
room even more.

I have built Bolger's Featherwind reworked by Dave Carnell into the $200
sailboat. It's 15'8" and I put the 113' wind sprint lug sail on it. It's
made of 1/4" ply, and works fine. I did put a small (1x2) keel and 2
"shoes" on it for bottom protection and to keep the bottom from oil
canning. I have not glass on the boat but the but joints. I haven't
weighed it but think it's a bit over 100 pounds. It's easily cartopable
by one person, with a small 2 wheel dolly that attaches to the transom.
For what it's worth...

She seemed to think that it was a little big for a first project, that
it would need a trailer, and not be launchable and retrievable by one
adult watching a child.

Now I am thinking of building a Teal.

I was reviewing the study, and making a model off that, which She Who's
Whim IS Law thinks is "cute" (The Teal, not me making the model)

However, I was noticing: the Teal and the Windsprint are about the same
weight despite the 4 foot difference. The reason seems to be the
Windsprint is spec'ed for 1/4 in skin and the Teal for 3/8

I am thinking of using the extra-thick gunwale, and the mast support
that loads up the gunwale instead of the bottom of the boat ( both
from the Windsprint) on the Teal and dropping the skin to 3/8 from 1/4
(like the Windsprint)

I also intend to leave the temporary forms in, deck them over, and
entomb some airspace.

My Questions are:

1) Is this a fast way to end up wet?
2) Will this save weight ( I am looking to car-top (pickup truck-top)
this critter)
3) Anyone else tried this trick?
