A new tool for scarfing plywood-invisable joints
Hello all of my fellow Bolgeristas! It has been some time since I
have posted but I have been busy writing and testing tools for my
column at Duckworks and soon MAIB. I am finishing my testing of a
tool I feel is the best thing for boat building in the last 20 years.
I will be posting this article in the next week or so with photos of
the tool. It comes in two sizes and with the large size it can join
plywood length wise as well as end to end. The scarf I used was only
1/2" long. Consistently the plywood I used broke everywhere else
during stress testing and the joints are nearly invisible.
With this tool and the new plastic layer technique you'll be able to
have a forty foot Bolger boat with a seamless hull. Read my next
tool review in my column "John's Tool Crib". I am even testing new
outboards for Bolger boats and other designs. I have a brand new
Briggs & Stratton five horsepower outboard sitting next to my desk
much to the chagrin of my loving wife. I have to finish a few
projects before testing the new outboard but be sure I will test it
under harsh conditions and my review will be fair and honest. The
Rep for B/S has told me they are working on a saltwater version that
will be out soon. I have a camouflage version and it looks super.
A multiple planer test is going on and I have seven new 12" sliding
miter saws en-route for testing. I also will have a holiday review
with at least six new boat building tools reviewed so you will know
what to ask for under the holiday tree.
So that is why I have not posted but my column is posted in Duckworks
so have fun building and if you have anything you think I should test
drop an email to me at john at kfalls dot net. After such a bad
health spell this has given me a great opertunity to help my fellow
boat builder and not just sit inside every day. So check out my
column and you will see some outstanding values.
